A vertical spec commercial about a lone LEGO minifigure lost in a deserted landscape of bricks, animated with a stop motion look.
Unofficial spec work, not affiliated with LEGO.
The challenge
How does a little LEGO minifigure survive alone in a deserted place? A short vertical commercial made for a 3D modelling exam, with the look of a real toy shot on a tabletop.
The approach
The minifigure was modelled, rigged, textured and animated by me, while the LEGO house comes from mecabricks.com. The hardest part was animating the bricks falling one by one: the model was so heavy that it slowed the whole scene down. It was also my first time animating textures. Rendered in Arnold at 12 fps for a stop motion feel, with sound design in Audition.
The result
A finished spot with its own small story, carried from modelling to the final mix by a single artist.
Breakdown
02 ASSETSMiniature by design.
Two technical tricks behind the toy look: a landscape built from instanced bricks and a camera that keeps its focus on the minifigure automatically.
